Plein Air: Prepare!

This workshop, led by Melissa Jean, is for artists who want to feel inspired, who want to take their art to the next level, who want to push themselves into new situations, resulting in new ideas, concepts and techniques for their art.

Setting up outside to paint is certainly not a new concept, but perhaps it’s one you haven’t tried before, or you might be someone who prefers painting “plein air” (in nature).  Either way this workshop is designed to break through the “ruts” we all face in our work, to have a little fun and experiment, and to capture that freshness that is so necessary in satisfying artwork.

Over the day, we will be doing 2 fun short “experiments in art” and then it will be time to look around and find a good spot to paint for the rest of the day, alone, yet together, as a tribe of artists figuring out how to make sense of our landscape. We will be taking a 3 dimensional experience and capturing the essence of that experience in a two dimensional form.  I will be your guide and your companion, painting myself in the time where everything quiets and we breathe it all in and out into our canvases. 

This is a workshop for those who already know the basics, but want to freshen up design, gain new techniques, and get inspired to take their painting further.

Participants must bring:

Minimum of 3 canvases.  Small in size, for example 8×10″ to 16×20″ or anything in between.

Paint.  Oil or acrylic.

Brushes, palette, painting tools.

Travel easel (table easel or portable easel of some kind)

Clothes you don’t mind getting messy.

Lunch and hydration

An open mind, and laughter in your pocket.
