Fantastic art, more commonly known as fantasy art, is a genre of art which portrays non-realistic, mystical, mythical, supernatural, or folkloric subjects or events. In this 8-week course, children ages 9-14 will explore fantasy art, illustration, and surrealism through a combination of two- and three-dimensional art projects. Participants will also learn about contemporary and historical artists that work in these genres of art.
Projects will include:
– Watercolour and oil pastel resist mermaid tails
– Character design inspired by artist Rodney Alan Greenblat
– “Enchanted Garden / Through a Portal” 3D paper collage
– Fantasy house illustrations
– Animal “familiar” masks inspired by designer Camille Chew
– Soft pastel drawing of a dragon’s eye
– James Rizzi inspired 3D paper “Dancing Houses”
– Surrealist assemblage scenes / objects
The course will run Wednesdays from 4:30-6:00pm from September 27 – November 15, 2023.

Payment will be required upon registration. The cost to register for this 8-week class is $275 +HST for non-members or $247.50 +HST for MUSE members. Limited to 16 participants. All materials are supplied.
