Call for Submissions: The Jingle Ball

Christmas trees. The human form. The art of decoration. We invite you to marry all three together in a spectacular art piece for display at the Douglas Family Art Centre during the month of December.

ABOUT THE EXHIBITION

A beautiful and creative take on the idea of Christmas trees, the human form, and the art of decoration. Think fashion, body decoration, Christmas.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

MANNEQUINS

The Douglas Family Art Centre will supply the mannequin (torso and stand), you will provide the creative ideas and all other materials. Please note, a covering to protect the mannequin should be worked into your design. Mannequins are available for pick-up once your submission has been approved. 

EXHIBITION MOUNTING AND DISMANTLING

Work space will be provided three days prior to the exhibition opening – November 30, December 1 and 2 – for construction of your piece on site. You will be responsible for the  transport of your piece or its components to the Douglas Family Art Centre. 

During the week of January 4-8, 2022, each artist/group will be responsible for the dismantling of their piece and the removal of all components, save the mannequin. 

EXHIBITION SPACE

Your piece should be no wider than 7’ at any point. Please keep this in mind so that each piece is afforded sufficient room in the gallery to “shine”. The pieces will be exhibited in the the Susan and Jim Hill Gallery (lower gallery), and the lounges, depending on the number of submissions. 

DETAILS RE: DESIGN AND MATERIALS

The piece created must be free-standing. 

We request that no glitter be used on your creation. 

The piece must include fresh or artificial greenery. Keep in mind the pieces will be displayed for three weeks so if using fresh greenery, please ensure it will remain fresh-looking for the duration of the exhibition. 

ARTIST/GROUP’S STATEMENT OR DESCRIPTION OF ENTRY

Any revisions for the finalized Artist’s Statement/Description must be submitted one week before the exhibition opening.

Deadline: November 26, 2021.

INSURANCE
The Douglas Family Art Centre does not provide insurance for the artwork. Artists are responsible for arranging their own insurance during transit and exhibition. 

ARTIST FEES
An honorarium will be paid to each participating artist/contributor.

NUMBER OF SUBMISSIONS
Maximum submissions per person/group: 1

HOW TO SUBMIT

This call is open to all. 

Submissions must include: 

• name of the artist or group contact;
• e-mail and phone number;
• a sketch or representation of the idea/piece and
• an accompanying description.

Not all submissions may be accepted due to space limitations.

There is no entry fee for this exhibition.

October 7, 2021: Applicants informed of selection for exhibition

November 26, 2021: Deadline to submit edits of Artist’s Statement/Description.

December 1-2, 2021: Exhibit mounting

December 3 – 24, 2021: Exhibition dates

January 4-8, 2022: Dismantling of exhibition
