Women’s History Month: Honouring Rita Boutette!

March is Women’s History Month and The Muse | Lake of the Woods Museum and Douglas Family Art Centre would like to recognize women who have made a significant contribution to The Muse over the years and whose work in the heritage/cultural sector inspires us.

Rita Boutette faithfully served on the Museum and then Muse Board for 12 years. Beyond that she was actively involved in special events, advisory committees, exhibition openings, and fundraisers. She would step in wherever help was needed – whether it be speech making, food preparation and serving, front desk reception, schmoozing, or providing encouragement and moral support for the staff. She led the Board as we embarked upon the Douglas Family Art Centre project and was there when the sod was turned, the funds were being raised, and the doors were opened. Her steady presence and feisty spirit brought us through that project successfully and we are indebted to her for that.

While Rita has moved on from The Muse to multiple other ways of serving in the community, we acknowledge what a mighty positive force she has been and will continue to be in our city. We honour her this month!
