In the Studio: Spring Break at The Muse

by Shelby Smith

Over Spring Break, The Muse welcomed a number of visitors of all ages for a variety of fun activities at both the Lake of the Woods Museum and the Douglas Family Art Centre.  Spring Break events and activities at The Muse included the City of Kenora‘s Spring Break Scavenger Hunt, a visit from the Kenora Recreation Centre’s Awesome Adventures Day CampToonie Tuesday, four drop-in crafts (mixed media rainbows, cardboard roll marionettes, yarn-wrapped owls, and CD sea creatures), and a Family Crafternoon!

The Studio at the Douglas Family Art Centre had a program for children and their families happening every day, Tuesday to Saturday, of March Break.  Here are some of the fun and creative pieces that were created during the week!

During the Second World War German prisoners of war were brought to the Lake of the Woods area to cut wood for the local mills.  Many of the prisoners enjoyed their time in the Canadian wilderness, and a number of them immigrated to Canada when the war ended.
