Instructor: Susan Bulman
Get an early start on the festive season by creating handmade holiday cards for your family and friends. A gift in itself of your time and imagination – there is no better gift to give!
In this 3-hour session taking place on Saturday, November 30th from 1-4pm, local artist Susan Bulman will guide participants through a series of watercolour, collage, and stencil techniques to create truly unique holiday cards.
The first hour will be devoted to “playing” with watercolours to create a variety of visual effects to be used for collage. Susan will cover basic watercolour techniques, including wet in wet, drybrush, and wet on dry, as well as more fun and experimental techniques and materials such as spattering, oil pastel resist, plastic wrap, rubbing alcohol, bleach, salt, and more. Once these sheets of watercolour “play” are complete, they can be cut out and collaged to be used as backgrounds or elements of the cards. Various samples and stencils will be provided to help inspire the creations.
Then we will break to enjoy tea and cookies as you plan out your ideas for your cards.
After the break, we’ll turn on the festive tunes and the “elves” (you!) will get to work on creating their hand-holiday cards for friends and family. Participants can make as many cards as the time permits, and can take home their extra watercolour collage pieces home for use in future projects, or donate them to the Art Centre’s collage bin.
No experience in drawing or watercolour is required. This workshop is for adults and teens (ages 13+). All materials are provided.
