Space Artsploration (5-9) – 8 weeks (SOLD OUT)

3…2…1…BLAST OFF!

In this 8-week session of art classes for children ages 5-9, we will be exploring the wondrous world of outer space through a combination of two- and three-dimensional art projects. The lessons will span a variety of artistic media and techniques including: drawing, painting, ceramics, and mixed media.  Projects and mini activities will include:

• Watercolour Galaxy Painting — learn to use wet-in-wet watercolour painting techniques to create a beautiful galaxy.
• Celestial Wall Hangings — create an outer space inspired wall hanging using slab-rolled clay, yarn, and driftwood.
• Design a Planet — draw and paint your own planet.
• Out of this World Landscapes — draw a landscape view from an alien planet.
• Ceramic Aliens — design and sculpt an alien (or space monster!) using clay.
• Creative Constellations — look at some real star constellations, then design your own using a combination of painting and drawing techniques.
• Tiny Planet Lights — create tiny glowing planet night-lights using battery powered tea lights.
• Button-making — inspired by the Canadian astronaut badges featured in the exhibition, Symbols to the Stars, we’ll be designing our own wearable buttons!
• Spaceship Blueprints — draw up some blueprints for your very own rocket ship or flying saucer!

The course will run Tuesdays from 4:30-5:30pm from September 17 – November 5, 2024.

The cost to register for this 8-week class is $225 (no tax), or $202.50 (no tax) for MUSE members. Limited to 12 participants. All materials are supplied.  Parents are encouraged to attend with children that require extra assistance.
