Shannon Gustafson, Blue Jingle Dress (detail), 2020, velveteen, cotton, satin, silver sequins, seed beads, jingles, 132 x 71 cm
Bring your creative project to the Douglas Family Art Centre on Thursday, November 24th at 6:30pm and join our Makers’ Circle. Whether you quilt, sew, draw, knit, bead, paint, or something else, all are welcome to join in and create in a relaxed, social environment with other makers.
At 6:45pm, we will be screening an interview with Shannon and Ryan Gustafson, two of the makers of Piitwewetam: Making is Medicine, and the two exhibitions curators, Leanna Marshall and Jean Marshall, produced by the Thunder Bay Art Gallery. In this half hour video, the artists and the curators share stories of their personal journeys through loss, grief, and healing, within the context of traditional knowledge, and the role that making has played in these journeys.
As this is a community space, no aerosols, solvents, or flammable processes will be allowed. Storage of artwork and materials is not provided. Children under 14 must be under the direct supervision of a parent or guardian.
Admission by donation.
