Presenter: Braden Murray

The Lake of the Woods Museum is pleased to announce a new Cemetery Tour for 2021! Called Oh This Troubled Land: Stories of the Boundary Dispute, this new tour will look at the true stories of the fight over the Ontario-Manitoba border that nearly tore Canada apart.

Based on contemporary accounts and never-before published archival material, the tour will look at the characters and battles of the boundary dispute from 1870-1884. With special attention paid to the Hudson’s Bay Company, the signing of Treaty #3, the “Battle of Rat Portage”, and the “stolen election” scandal of 1884, the tour will dive into some of the most burning questions in our history, and answer, once and for all, exactly why Kenora isn’t still part of Manitoba.

Maximum of 20 people per tour.

Cost is $10/person. You must pre-register and pre-pay by calling the Lake of the Woods Museum at (807) 467-2105.

Hearing assistive devices are available. We ask that guests please bring their own wired headphones.

COVID protocols will be in place.

You are welcome to bring your own portable lawn chair if you wish.

Please meet at the east end of the Cemetery by the Cemetery garage. There is parking available there. Follow the signs from the entrance gate.
